Bush camping

It is becoming increasingly more difficult to find a clean and private location to experience nature. As such, we have decided to allow bush campers on our property. Nestled into one of our favourite parts of the property, our bush camp offers privacy and seclusion you won’t find elsewhere. The site is true to bush camp style. i.e. You bring it in: you take it out. There is a small dam onsite and Rifle Creek is a pleasant 60m walk away, so there are lots of places to explore and cool down on hot days including a great swimming spot in the adjoining National Park (no vehicle access or camping allowed – fines apply to those who try).

The lagoon is only a short walk away.
Our swimming hole is only a short walk away. No vehicle access and no motorised boats.

The site comes with a variety of campfire pits so you can enjoy the wonders of cooking on an open fire and roasting marshmallows with family or friends. Stargazing, hiking, swimming, playtpus and bird watching are some of the activities you can enjoy in this quiet space. Our property is a wildlife refuge, so no dogs or cats.

Where are we?  Sheoak Ridge Nature Reserve is located an easy 1.5hr drive north west of Cairns and 45 mins drive from Port Douglas, Mareeba & Mossman in far north Queensland. We are on a rural property about 15mins drive from the small township of Mount Molloy (you go right past us if you are on your way to Cooktown or Cape York). Our property is private, so all guests must contact us via email before their arrival. We will send you a map with directions once you’ve contacted us in person. The access road to Sheoak Ridge is a dirt road that is suitable for 2WD vehicles. As we have a lot of wildlife in our area and our property is a designated Wildlife Refuge, please drive this road slowly and carefully. 🙂

Please be sure to read our conditions for use before contacting us. We will also send you a copy of our trail map before or upon your arrival, so you can plan some walks while you are here. Anyone interested in birding, will particularly love this camp site, as the bird life on the property is extremely diverse.

Our favourite swimming spot. :-)

If you would like to camp at Sheoak Ridge please send us a  short email telling us a little about yourself. That way you won’t be a complete stranger when you arrive.

We only invite low impact campers onsite. Absolutely no pets – not negotiable.  Please contact Claire and Marcus via this website to inquire about  availability, or request more info. Please don’t just turn up as we may have campers on site already or booked in.
